2020 Favorites

December 9, 2020

It's almost here: the end of 2020! I'm as excited as all of you to celebrate a new year with new potential and possibilities. I'm also anxious to leave all the not-so-good things that have happened behind and start anew. Here's a list of a few things I loved this year.

  • The best thing I did this year was take a break from it all and head over to Cabo San Lucas. See my whole post on the trip, including outfit information, here.
  • This year I also took a deep look into my relationship with God. I saw that there was still so much work to be done there and so much work to be done in myself as a person. I subscribed to She Reads Truth and have honestly felt so much closer to Him. I'm currently reading the Advent Study Book and highly recommend! Check out their subscription box here.
  • Since COVID-19, gyms have been closed so I've relied heavily on my Sweat subscription to keep me in shape! It offers simple workouts that can be done at home with little to no equipment.

  • I think we all hit Netflix hard this year! I binged watched the following shows:
    • The Crown (5/5 ⭐)
    • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime Video) (5/5 ⭐)
    • Money Heist (5/5 ⭐)
    • Emily in Paris (4/5 ⭐)
    • Grace and Frankie (5/5 ⭐)
    • Monk (Amazon Prime Video) (5/5 ⭐)
    • Great British Baking Show (5/5 ⭐)
    • The Duchess (2/5 ⭐)
    • Schitt's Creek (4/5 ⭐)
    • Man with a Plan (4/5 ⭐)
    • Dream Home Makeover (5/5 ⭐)
    • Get Organized with The Home Edit (3/5 ⭐)
    • Queer Eye (5/5 ⭐)
    • Cheer (4/5 ⭐)
    • Guilty pleasures: Selling Sunset, Are You the One?, Love is Blind
  • Loved these movies:
    • Holidate (4/5 ⭐)
    • Feel the Beat (4/5 ⭐)
    • Life Itself (Amazon Prime Video) (3/5 ⭐)
    • Enola Holmes (4/5 ⭐)
    • Eurovision (4/5 ⭐)
    • The Croods: A New Age: saw this at my first ever drive-in theater and loved it! (5/5 ⭐)
  • Also enjoyed the following books:

Let me know some of your favorites so I too can become obsessed!

Con amor,

The Beauty Edit: My Everyday Makeup

February 16, 2018

¡Hola! Today I'm sharing the products I use for my everyday makeup routine! To be honest, for the past couple of weeks I've worn very minimal makeup (concealer and some blush) or even nothing at all. But that would make for a very boring post, wouldn't it? On the days where I do put in the effort to wear makeup, such as for the looks here and here, these are my holy grail products! Let's go through each step, one by one:
------
¡Hola!

STEP 1:
Once you've completed your morning skincare routine (let me know below if you want to see mine!), its time to prime your face! Priming can be essential to the longevity of your makeup. It can also help mask any skincare issues you might have. For example, I use this Smashbox primer to help minimize my pores and sometimes also use the MakeUp ForEver primer (not pictured) in my t-zone to keep it matte. I LOVE th Loreal Magic Lumi primer because since I began using it, only on top of my cheekbones, my highlighter really pops! More on this in step 5!
------

STEP 2:
The only foundation I can wear during the day without feeling like I have a ton of makeup on is the Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Foundation. As the name states, it feels like your skin is naked because it is so lightweight. It also has SPF 20! I use the shade Medium and its a perfect match for my skin tone! I apply it using the Sephora PRO Mini Airbrush #55.5. For concealer, I am head over heels in love with the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer! Maybe you've heard about it in other blogs or youtube vides and let me tell you, the hype is REAL. It gives amazing coverage and does not crease! I've already purchased a backup for when I run out! I use the shade Medium in this also and apply it using either the same brush from my foundation or my dampened Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.
-------

PRO TIP: To find a foundation that matches your skin color perfectly, the next time you're by a Sephora go in and ask for your Color IQ. They'll remove patches of makeup and use a device that gives them your skin's color code. You can then use that code to search foundations in shades that will match you perfectly!

STEP 3:
To set only my T-zone, I use the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in the shade Transparent. I use a brush similar to this one. I've also been using the NYX Studio Finishing Powder to set my under eyes. I don't love it but I ran out of my favorite (from Besame) and it gets the job done.
------

STEP 4:
To bronze all over the face I've been using this Milani Bronzer XL in the shade Bronze Glow with a Real Techniques Powder Brush. For blush I love shades like this one from Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Fiesty on the apples of my cheeks. For a similar and cheaper version, I love the Wet n Wild Color Icon blush in Mellow Wine. I apply blush using the Real Techniques Blush Brush.
------

STEP 5:
My favorite step! I received this Anastasia Glow Kit in Sun Dipped for Christmas and I LOVE it! If you noticed the sun kissed glow on my skin in The Serendipitous Blazer post its all thanks to this beauty! I mostly use the shades Moonstone and Summer but have used and loved all of them. I apply it with the Sephora PRO Fan Brush #65 in a C-formation around my eyes (from the top of my brows to the tops of my cheekbones). For extra glow, also used in The Serendipitous Blazer, I use Loreal True Match Lumi Glow Amour Blow Boosting Drops in Golden Hour underneath my highlighter.
------

STEP 6:
If you've seen my other beauty posts, you know I love the Benefit Gimme Brow because its a quick and easy way to get my brows done. Unfortunately, its been recalled so I'm going to have to find a dupe for it soon (if you have any let me know!). When I have a little more time, I've been loving the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil because its really easy to fill in and shape my brows quickly. I use the shade 6.
------

STEP 7:
This is one of my best tips for a quick eye look that makes you look very chic: for an all over the eye shade, use your blush! Place whatever is left on your blush brush over your eyes. To contour your crease, use your bronzer! Use a fluffy crease brush like this one. My favorite bronzer for this type of look is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Luminous Bronze Light. My favorite mascaras are all from the drugstore! Maybelline makes the best mascaras! I love the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara because it makes my lashes longer and defined with some volume. But for even more volume, I use the Loreal Lash Paradise either on its own or layered over the one from Maybelline. I use both in Blackest Black.
------

STEP 8:
My favorite lip products of the moment are these/Mis favoritos productos de labios son estos:

STEP 9:
To complete the look use my all time favorite setting spray, NYX Dewy Finish Makeup Setting Spray, for a glowy look that lasts all day!
------

The Hair Care Edit

November 1, 2016

Hola! Today I thought I'd share with you my hair care routine. I probably don't take care of my hair as much as I should but I do make it a habit to do these few things:

Color: My colorist is amazing! I don't know the exact details of what she does on me other than its a balayage/ombre fusion and I love it! For more information on my colorist, message me on the blog's Facebook page.

Wash: I'm not very picky with what shampoo/conditioner I use. I used to love the Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Shampoo & Conditioner but I haven't seen it in stores for a while. I do make it a habit to use purple shampoo and conditioner at least once a weak to keep my hair from looking brassy. This makes a huge difference in my hair color! I enjoy using the Clairol Shimmer Lights set. Every once in a while I also use a hair mask for deep repair, like Macadamia Natural Oil's Deep Repair Masque

Detangle: The longer my hair gets, the more tangled it gets too! To help me deal with this tangled mess I use It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product. It is by far the best detangler I have ever used and its also a heat protectant. The downside: it's so expensive! I still haven't found any other leave-in conditioner that works as well for a cheaper price and trust me I've looked. As soon as I find one I'll let you know!

Style: On most days, after I wash my hair and detangle it, I use Bumble and bumble's Don't Blow It for it to dry without frizz and perfect air-dried texture. After its almost 3/4 of the way dry, I braid it into a french braid to achieve natural curls. Its so easy to do!  On days when I want more structured curls like the ones in the photo above, I use the 1-1 ½ Inch Remington T|Studio Salon Collection Pearl Digital Ceramic Curling Wand. Another full post on how I curl my hair to follow!

I hope you find these few tips helpful! Let me know if there's anything you think I should add to my routine!

The Wishlist: Sephora

August 10, 2016

It's the middle of the week and besides dreaming about the weekend, I'm also dreaming about these five makeup products!

1 Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Champagne Splits Shimmering Skin Perfector Mineral Blush Duo Prosecco Pop & Pamplemousse ($38)- If you read my post on The Makeup Bag: Splurge Edition you know I love Becca x Jaclyn Hill's Champagne Pop highlighter! Well, she recently came out with a huge collection of more products and a new highlighter shade! I would love to get my hands on this small palette that includes the new highlighter shade, Prosecco Pop, and a blush, Pamplemousse!

2 Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($23-$38)- I've heard so many good things about this powder! I really prefer loose translucent powder for setting my makeup. It just makes everything set beautifully and look flawless! I'm definitely going to give this a try as soon as my current powders run out! I'll let you all know how it handles oil!

3 Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush Soft Glow Duo ($42)- I'm definitely a lover of blush. The perfect shade can just illuminate your face and make you appear fresh, happy and alive! This looks like the perfect combination of shades to achieve that naturally flushed look! Put looking at the price tag, this is going to be one of those products I'm going to have to see in store and fall in love with before purchasing it.

4 Supergoop! Hello Sunshine Suncare Starter Kit ($15)- I'm running out of my current sunscreen and was looking for a replacement when I spotted this value set! I've been wanting to try the Supergoop! line for a while becuase I've heard great things about it. This kit contains an eye cream, a CC cream, handcream, an everyday sunscreen, and a serum for only $15! It is definitely going in my cart!

5 Sephora Collection Pro Fan Brush #65 ($27)- As a lover of highlight, you'd be surprised to know that I don't own a good fan brush! I'm dying to add this one to my brush collection! It's been hanging around in my shopping cart for a while, just waiting for that moment that I'll say "Screw it! I want it way too bad!" and hit the "Complete Order" button! Come on, I know we've all been there!

What new makeup product have you bought and loved recently? I'm always happy to add your suggestions to my wishlist!

The Skincare Routine

August 3, 2016

This week’s beauty post is all about skincare! I take skincare seriously. Even though you might think I’m too young to be worried about this, I really believe that skincare should be used to prevent damage rather than waiting to fix damage that’s already begun! Here I’m going to share with you the products I’ve been using for the last couple of years. Do they work? Well I can tell you that I’m the oldest of 5 but when trying to list us in numbers, people never guess me as first!
------

Tarte Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($12)- Sunscreen is very important! Although I prefer to use a moisturizer that already includes SPF, the moisturizer I have right now does not so I use this underneath for protection.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair® Cream Intense Hydration ($30)- I received this in a Popsugar Must Have Box and love it! The most important thing to prevent wrinkles is moisturizing!

Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil Light ($16)- If you've read any of the previous beauty posts you know that I have oily skin, so why do I use an oil? When researching solutions for oily skin, I found that sometimes it is the lack of oil that makes our skin try to produce more. When I learned this, I started to use this oil and noticed a real change!

Sunday Riley Power Couple Duo: Total Transformation Kit ($85)- This product on its own is very expensive ($105) but in this kit and with a discount, I got it at a great price! It is definitely worth the price tag though. I put this on on nights that my skin is feeling tired or problematic and I wake up with plumper skin, looking much better!

CLINIQUE Moisture Surge Overnight Mask ($34.50)- I use this the same as the Luna Night Oil for when my skin needs a little boost. I also love CLINIQUE Moisture Surge Intense For Very Dry To Dry Combination Skin ($39)! It is very important to bring your moisturizer down to your neck!

Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm ($28)- Worth every penny! Makes my lips nice and smooth!

CLINIQUE Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel ($26)- This is my PMS secret weapon! This zaps and drys zits in a day or two!

Origins GinZing™ Refreshing Eye Cream ($30)- Eye cream is so important! Eyes are the first to show signs of ageing so it is important to use moisturizer in the morning before applying makeup and at night!

Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate ($67)- This is a 100-point reward from Sephora I got after a friend's recommendation. Its actually my second one! I use this in the morning just before applying moisturizer and it has worked wonders on my skin! As you can see, I'm running out so I'm probably going to have to bit the bullet and buy the full size version soon!
For removing my makeup I use the Simple Micellar Cleansing Water or the Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash (neither pictured).

The Makeup Bag: Save Edition

July 27, 2016

As promised, this week’s makeup post is all about saving some money while still purchasing quality products (see last week's post here)! There are so many drugstore products that I love and even prefer over higher-end ones! Take mascaras for example: after purchasing a couple of mascaras at Sephora, I realized that they just weren’t worth the money and that I could find equal or better ones at my local drugstore! They best thing about the drugstore is that if you feel intrigued to try something out but don’t end up loving it you’re out maybe just  $10 to $15 at the most instead of $30 to $50! That’s a huge win in my book! I would say the drugstore product I end up testing out the most are lipsticks! I’m always on the hunt for my next favorite! Right now its the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors as I’m sure you’ve noticed from my previous posts. What type of product are you constantly trying out from the drugstore?
------
